Every router is a little bit different, but most Linksys routers follow a similar pattern when it comes to login and making changes to the configuration. That process is also similar to what you'll find on most other router brands, too, so it's a good example for this article. The first thing to do is figure out what your router's Internet Protocol (IP) address is. To do this on Microsoft Windows 10, click the Start menu and type in Command Prompt and click Enter. Then type in ipconfig and click Enter again. You should see the same thing as in the screen shot below, though with different address numbers. Your router's IP address will be listed as the Default Gateway. Here, that's 192.168.13.1.

Next, open your browser and type in your router's IP address as the URL (http:\\192.168.13.1). That'll get you to a login prompt for your router's administration console. If you've never changed the username and password for your router, then looking up your router model on the Linksys website should lead you to a support page where the default credentials are listed. If it's not Linksys, then just find your original installation instructions from when you first installed the router and the default credentials will be there. If that document is long gone, then head over to your router maker's website and find the instructions for setting your router back to factory defaults. The default credentials should be there, too. If that doesn't work, you'll need to call your router's support line and ask.

Navigate to this page(Opens in a new window) and enter your router's model name. You'll get a list of potential candidates. Pick the one that matches your router's brand and model number, and then download the bin file.

If you use the Internet, your home most likely has a router. You have plugged that router in and have a basic Wi-Fi network up and running. What you might not realize is that your preset network is less than ideal. You might not have any password set, or your Wi-Fi network is not optimized for your use. To make any changes to your Wi-Fi network, you need to login to your router using 192.168.1.7. Even if your router was set up by a professional, perhaps by the ISP, and you are happy with how things are, you might still need to use 192.168.1.7 when something goes wrong. It is always handy knowing how to access your routers admin page in case you need to change something, and getting to that admin page is not as hard as you might think.

With your computer device connected to your router, open your web browser of choice. Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Microsoft Edge, or Safari are some examples of popular browsers. With your browser open, enter your IP address, 192.168.1.7, into the search bar. Searching for 192.168.1.7 will take you to the login section of your router admin page. You will need to input the username and password associated with your router. The correct details will take you to the menu of your router admin page.

Another popular setting people change on their router is the actual local IP address of your router. Your router has two IP addresses, with more on that below. If you opt to change your IP address away from 192.168.1.7, you should take note of your new address as you will need it to access your router admin page.

The 192.168.1.7 IP address is a local, private, or gateway IP address. 192.168.1.7 is your router's address that computer devices connected to the network will use to send data requests over the internet. Your router also has a public IP address. The public IP address gets used by the ISP and any website you visit, to get the information of the website you visit, to your router, with your router the sending that data, back to your computer screen, via the private IP address.

192.168.1.7 is a common private IP address, though it might not be yours. If 192.168.1.7 is not your IP address, you can search for your router model online, which should reveal the default IP address of your router. The IP address may also be listed in the manual of your router. If those methods don't work, you can use your computer to find your IP address.

The only way your private IP address will change is if you change it. If your routers IP address does not match 192.168.1.7 or one of the other default IP addresses, then someone may have changed it before. If that is the case and you wish to reset it back to default, then you can perform a factory reset on your router, though that will reset everything else on the router.

As touched on above, 192.168.1.7 is a private IP address that your router uses to distinguish itself on the network, and a delivery point for data requests from computer devices using the Wi-Fi network. 192.168.1.7 is not unique to your router as most router manufacturers use a selection of private IP addresses across their ranges of routers. With that said, a private IP address is not even unique to a certain brand. It is done this way, as the only person who needs to know the private IP address is the owner of the router.

But how does your router know which computer device is sending it data requests? Well, your router is not the only device on your network, with each computer connected to your Wi-Fi network, also having a private IP address such as 192.168.1.7. The string of numbers that is your IP address helps each device communicate with the other. And it is not just internet-capable devices that have an IP address. Printers and storage devices also have an IP address, so your router and computer devices using the network can connect with them and use them. Usually, the IP addresses of other devices on the Wi-Fi network are deviations of the router IP address, with the last number being different.

192.168.1.7 is a private IP address and directly related to your Wi-Fi network. It is the chain of numbers you use to access the router admin page. However, as briefly mentioned, your router also has another public IP address.

Then scroll down until you see the connection method you use to connect to your router (wifi or ethernet) and look for the default gateway. In this example, ours is 192.168.2.1. (yours may be different)

I am poor so I use a cheap old belkin router. I have 2 refurbished PCs. The windows 10 PC is tethered to a cell phone with unlimited data. Then I have connectify and speedify running. Ethernet cord from the windows 10 PC goes to the belkin internet connector and another from a lan connector to my ubuntu PC. I am glad I paid attention to my computer science classes and learned how to use google to find stuff too.

hello, i followed option 1 and after some playing with it and downloading the latest versions of the firmware i seem to have gotten it to work for the most part. Im using Verizon with my cell phone to test before i go and add another line (most likely a tablet to be the dedicated connection that the router is going to be using) which is a samsung GS8 with the RT-AC68U router as you guys had linked to amazon. Im at the point where the connection thinks it has internet access, even though when i try to open a web page it will not, and even when i disconnect my phone from the router/ turn off usb tethering the net work connection still thinks it has internet access when i hover my mouse over the connection icon in the bottom right corner of the screen/tool bar. I have noticed that in the network map section on the asus router page it will not show an active connection via my phone, but it will show that my samsung phone is connected to the usb 3.0 slot.

centuryLinkFiberEeroUser Important note!: In step one, I mention a router settings page. I'm referring to the router-modem that came from my ISP (centurylink) NOT the eero settings app. You can usually find this settings page by looking for it on your mode/router's sticker. It will probably be an IP address (192.168.0.1 is a common one). Type that IP address into your web browser. Then use the username and login that was hopefully printed next to the settings IP address on your router/modem. DISCLAIMER: This settings page can do a lot of stuff that will break your internet. Don't just go clicking random stuff in there. 2ff7e9595c
